Laminated aluminum foil is a multilayer flexible packaging substrate made by bonding extremely thin aluminum foil (6–9μm) as the "barrier core" with materials such as plastic films or paper. It perfectly combines the "ultra-high barrier" properties of aluminum foil with the processability of plastics/paper (heat sealability, puncture resistance, printability). It is the core material of modern packaging such as potato chip bags, coffee pouches, Tetra Brik, pharmaceutical blister packs, and face mask pouches.

The purpose of lamination is to solve specific problems: using aluminum foil as the "functional barrier layer" and plastic or paper as the "structural support, heat seal, and printing layer" – thus complementing each other's strengths.

Laminated aluminum foil is typically represented by a three-layer structure: "outer layer / barrier layer / inner layer". For example: PET / AL / PE
